About Miami Dade Bus

South Florida’s unique subtropical environment is one of the most distinct locations in the United States. Four hundred years ago, English and French hostilities to the north and Spanish dominance to the south dominated the region. The United States obtained Florida, and “wrecking” became a big business based on shipwrecks. Early communities developed along the Miami River and Biscayne Bay. A lighthouse in Key Biscayne, established in 1825, alerted seafarers of hazards.

The advent of Henry Flagler’s railroad in 1896 signaled the dawn of the modern age. Drainage canals constructed after the turn of the century changed the terrain. As a result of mangrove degradation and swampland draining, new land became available to settlers. The 1920s real estate boom resulted in fast subdivision and resort development. Visitors marveled at the city’s fast development, calling it the “Magic City.” During World War II, the military sent a considerable number of men for training.

Following that, many troops returned with their families, adding to the population growth. Transportation advancements established Miami-Dade’s status as a year-round resort. The contemporary Miami International Airport serves as the country’s gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. The Tequesta people, who lived here 10,000 years ago, left an indelible mark on the region.Â
