About Daytona International Race Track

In 1953, a vision for a new racing venue began, transforming motorsports in Daytona Beach, Florida. The idea materialized with a proposal to construct a permanent speedway facility, ensuring a thrilling future for racing. By 1957, land clearing commenced, incorporating 31-degree highbanks to achieve faster speeds and enhance spectator visibility. Engineers used dirt from the infield, creating a 29-acre lake named Lake Lloyd, a unique feature of the venue.

Racing transitioned from the beach-road course to this new track in 1959, hosting the first DAYTONA 500. The inaugural race witnessed a dramatic finish, resolved 61 hours later through newsreel footage. The track soon expanded its portfolio, hosting the DAYTONA 200 motorcycle race in 1961 and the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA in 1962. Initially a three-hour event, the iconic endurance race evolved into a 24-hour competition in 1966.

The facility underwent a transformative renovation starting in 2013, modernizing every aspect of the racing experience. The project included wider, more comfortable seating for over 101,500 fans and improved amenities such as additional escalators, restrooms, and concession stands. Completed in 2016, the redesign elevated the venue to unparalleled levels of functionality and comfort. The complex also houses luxury suites offering unparalleled views, making it an inviting destination for corporate gatherings.

Today, the motorsports complex spans 500 acres, offering an unrivaled variety of racing events annually. Beyond races, the grounds serve as a venue for concerts, social events, vehicle testing, and more, demonstrating remarkable versatility. Visitors can also explore daily track tours, the Motorsports Hall of Fame, and the champion DAYTONA 500 car. The venue continues hosting the world’s premier motorsports events, blending rich history with a future of exhilarating innovation and community engagement
